Self-confidence can be defined as the power to trust oneself and one’s gifts. This characteristic is integral to one’s achievements during one’s lifetime. This strength encourages people to know that they are worthwhile and that they can succeed in their actions. Even persons who do not possess this strength can understand how to boost their self confidence.
Without this characteristic, many individuals become powerless to accomplish life ambitions. They are often unsuccessful in interpersonal interactions, educational attempts, and job situations. They often acquire a social phobia, and tend to be uncomfortable in social encounters. Persons who do not possess self-confidence sometimes be reluctant to attempt to aspire or work toward goal achievement; these individuals are convinced that they are about to fall short. They are certain that they are lesser or less capable than those around them. They typically do fall short because they do not believe in themselves.
In contrast, the individual who is successful in gaining self confidence will find himself or herself equipped to reverse this cycle of despair and be able to find a cure for this social phobia. Such a person learns that increasing self confidence results in remarkable improvements in relationships and educational endeavors. At times, an employment prospect might even result from steps toward boosting self-confidence.
People might not acquire self-confidence for a variety of reasons. Some had overbearing parents, or been teased often during their school years. Some struggled educationally or socially. Others just had difficulty making friends or experience the affirming backing of peers, parents, or teachers. Many of these individuals fight against a self-image of inadequacy and incompetence.
Frequently, those who were not able to boost self confidence during childhood are unable to do this throughout adulthood. They have been unable to learn how to achieve this, and can learn only if they look for the assistance and support of friends or trained professionals. Many people are ashamed to admit these difficulties in their lives, and instead continue to struggle along all their lives.
A variety of strategies are sometimes used to help individuals to boost self confidence. Many types of counseling techniques, including behavioral therapy or group therapy, may be employed to assist people how to gain self confidence. Countless self-help guides have been written to encourage clients to improve self-confidence. Professionals provide instructional sessions and retreats structured to allow others build self confidence.
Even though any of these strategies can be successful, two alternative strategies that are not difficult to learn and very successful for the majority of clients who try them are confidence hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming or NLP. Professionals who practice confidence hypnotherapy are often successful in coaching people to acquire self confidence and radically improve both their outlooks and their abilities to achieve in life.
Traditional hypnotherapy (using post-hypnotic suggestions) may be very useful. It is most helpful for people who are suggestible and easily directed. This technique frequently is not effective for clients who are more analytical or think critically.
Individuals described by this latter category, Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP techniques work much better. These strategies are great for successfully relating to the unconscious mind, which is the seat of our emotions. This occurs because the resistance to suggestiveness usually presented by analytical people is bypassed.
A tool offered through that persons are frequently taught to boost self-confidence is known as anchoring. This is a natural experience. For example, if you hear an old song, and have sensations of deja vu, it’s because your unconscious connected the emotions in a past situation, with the lyrics of the song you were listening to at the time. Therefore, now when you hear the music again, the unconscious triggers the memories connected with it. So the song is an anchor for those feelings.
Through anchoring, persons are coached to recall an instance where they did experience the emotions of confidence. When they remember and relive those sensations, they are coached to touch two fingers together. The unconscious then associates the recollections of self-confidence with the two fingers touching together. If the person says that they have no recollection of having self-confidence, they can create a fantasy where he or she does see himself having confidence, and then anchor that perception of confidence.
When the client has anchored the feelings of confidence, on those occasions that necessitate self-confidence, touching the fingers together triggers the feelings of confidence that are useful in the present situation.
Another very powerful NLP technique known as the “Flash” can be used to instantly replace stressful emotions, which are sometimes connected with a lack of self-confidence. With the Flash, the person diverts the mental pictures that create negativity, to trigger mental pictures to generate a good emotion.
For example, the individual programs the unconscious to employ the visual images that cause feelings of insecurity, as triggers for visual images that cause feelings of self confidence. Visual cues trigger emotional responses.
We all have dreams, and aspirations. Many individuals are able to strive toward these to achieve their dreams. Sometimes, however, people permit their low self-confidence to overpower them. Although NLP might not successfully treat every person, the overwhelming majority of persons who have used this approach describe amazing success in building self confidence. This therapy is often more beneficial than other techniques for most people.
Summary: Persons who lack self-confidence usually do not easily succeed in many areas of life. A variety of elements cause individuals to experience social phobias or feelings of incompetence. A number of strategies have been developed to assist people to build self-confidence. NLP has often been reported to be very beneficial by most people who have adopted this approach.
