The 10 tips to take care of sexual health

Habits are very important when it comes to keeping sexual health at bay male extra. A complete diet, good hygiene routines or do not miss gynecological check-ups can avoid many problems throughout the life of every woman. To face all the sexual stages successfully, the Spanish Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SEGO) and the pharmaceutical company Bial have launched the ‘Decalogue of healthy women’.

The data point to the fact that Spanish women still do not pay all the attention they should to their sexual health. One in five young people between the ages of 25 and 35 have never had a Pap smear, according to INE data, and “between 12 and 20% of women will have a sexually transmitted disease throughout their lives”, according to Professor Troyano Luque, Vice President Treasurer of SEGO.

The solution to avoid these future diseases may be to be consistent with some food routines, such as maintaining a diet rich in calcium, or look for the contraceptive method that best suits the needs of each person.

Adapting the rhythm of life to the three stages that every woman goes through during her life (childhood-adolescence, reproductive and menopause) is basic to having good gynecological health. These are the tips to follow that the ‘Decalogue of the Healthy Woman’ proposes.

  1. Maintain a balanced diet during childhood, and access to a vitamin and mineral contribution under pediatric control. “Remember that calcium is treasured in youth and spent in menopause.”
  2. Exercise regularly, avoiding overweight.
  3. Find out about medical options and preventive plans for gynecological diseases.
  4. Find out about contraceptive methods and which one is best for you.
  5. Get regular gynecological exams every two years.
  6. Avoid sexually transmitted diseases.
  7. Before planning an impending pregnancy, go to a preconception review and then control your management properly.
  8. Eat well during your reproductive and menopausal life: make low-fat saturated meals, low-carbonated refined sugars (cakes, for example), rich in vegetables and fish, preferably blue and white meats.
  9. Avoid toxic habits and inappropriate medications or that cause you doubts about fetal integrity in the first trimester of pregnancy. Always check with your gynecologist.
  10. Assume the importance of breastfeeding and its benefits for you and your child.
